The Dog Breed Selector…What Breed is Best For You?

One of the most important things to do before getting a dog is to research what breed is best for you and your family.  I found a great quiz on Animal Planet’s website that will help in your quest to find a great match.  They only include purebred dogs, but they give you many matches to look into further, so that a lot of mixes/mutts would fit in accordingly.

The quiz is made up of questions about things such as activity level, grooming, size, trainability, etc.  The only major thing that I see they are missing is a question about allergies.  I’m allergic to a lot of breeds and when I took my quiz, a few of those breeds showed up in my “matches”.  I also think that they should include questions like “is it important that the dog is good with kids” or “do you live in an apartment, house, etc?”  Nevertheless, it’s a great place to start and narrow down your options.

I attached my results after taking the quiz below.  I think it’s awesome that Italian Greyhound came up first the with highest percentage of match!  I would agree!  Chihuahua was there too, but it was towards the bottom, which surprised me.  I was also pleased to see that Chinese Crested and Brussels Griffon were on the list.  They are two other breeds that I would love to rescue at some point.  One of my answers is that I want low to no grooming, so I was surprised at how many longer-haired dogs appeared higher up on the list.  Like I said before, it’s not perfect, but it’s a great place to start (and pretty fun too!)
