Now this is the kind of summer camp that I would have loved as a kid. Here in Omaha, the Nebraska Humane Society has an awesome summer day camp for kids ages 6-12. Camp Kindness is a five day camp where kids interact with the shelter animals and are taught how to care for and treat animals. I think all kids should have to go to something like this. It’s a great way to get the adoption/rescue message out early. It’s also a great way for the shelter to raise some money for their own needs.

I hope many shelters around the country consider providing such a camp, if they don’t already. We need to shape kids to be kind and respectful to animals whether they are pet owners as adults or not.

This is fantastic! I know we are working at our Humane Society to implement a program similar to this. Good luck with the camp and I hope you’ll blog about the results!
Emily,
When you do, reach out to me. I’d love to profile it.
