I don’t have any tattoos. What it comes down to is that I can’t think of anything to put on my body permanently that I wouldn’t get sick of after awhile. Plus, I think there are very limited places on a woman’s body that won’t stretch out all funny with things like pregnancy. So many women I’ve waxed once had a butterfly on their hip or stomach and now it’s a dragonfly due to stretching.
Don and I talk about getting tattoos every once and awhile. We have said that if we’re still alive and going strong in our 70′s that we’ll get Iowa Hawkeye tattoos together…but we’ll see. I always say that maybe I’ll get pictures of my dogs tattooed somewhere. Zoey, Leroy and Stella all on my back. I’m thinking that may be problematic given that I’m sure I’ll have many dogs over my lifetime and I’ll love all of them so much that I’ll want tattoos of them too. I might end up looking like one big dog collage.
This lady has her dogs tattooed on her arm. The artwork is very impressive. I wonder if it’s a little awkward in certain intimate situations to see a big picture of your dogs though. Kinda like having a framed picture of your parents in the master bedroom. Awkward.
I really wish that they could make a tattoo that lasts for a year or two and then fades away. Then I’d definitely try something. What tattoos do you have? Any dog tattoos out there? If you don’t have tattoos, what would you get and where if you had to get one tattoo?

I have a Mr. Peanut on my ankle in memory of my day, stars on my ear, and Kokopelli with two lizards on my foot. Kokopelli has my husbands name on him and is the colr of his birthstone and the two lizards are my boys
No dogs though…
I love tattoos that have meaning like that. What’s the connection between Mr. Peanut and your dad? My dad LOVES peanuts…is rather addicted actually.
OOOps I meant in memory of my dad not day…LOL
I have 7 Chinese characters on my left shoulder blade. They read beloved (for my husband) grace and joy (my girls’ middle names). No dogs and no pictures. Having already been through pregnancy I avoided all the areas that normally stretch and change shape and hope that my shoulder blades won’t change too much as I get older.
I’m giggling at the idea of getting chunky shoulder blades! I think you’re safe! I love the symbolism of your tattoo!
I’d love to get a simple little pawprint in honor of all the dogs I’ve loved and all the dogs I’ve rescued. But I just don’t know where to put it and since I haven’t figured it out after 12 years of wanting a tattoo…I probably never will figure it out!
That’s how I am too…I always have ideas in theory, but I never really execute. Like I said, I wish they had tattoos that were only semi-permanent.
I have a tattoo on my left ring finger – it is a pawprint with an R on one side for my beloved first dog, Redwood, a J on the other for my little man Jester, and a T on the bottom for crazy girl, Teak. This does not represent all my dogs, but it does represent my heart dogs at the time. Now I have to find somewhere to put a D for Dyson…..
People always ask if it’s my wedding ring tattooed, and I tell them no, it’s a reminder that my dogs were here first and to think very, very hard before I decide to cover that tattoo with a ring. Of course, I did, and now wear my wedding ring over it, but I’m still happy it is there. (And I picked a husband who loves my dogs almost as much as I do!)
I also have a lady bug on my hip, but since the baby, I haven’t seen it…..
I love the idea of a ring! Don and I actually thought about doing tattoo wedding rings. I never get to wear my wedding ring because of my job, so it would be nice to have something permanent.
