stella-allergies-suck

So I was away for one day and when I got home, I noticed that Stella’s paws were a little pink.  I had immediately had flashbacks to when we rescued Stella and our vet told us that Jack Russell Terriers can be prone to allergies.  We have been trying to figure out how to control Leroy’s allergies for years now, so the prospect of having to deal with it again with Stella was something we were hoping to avoid.  But sure enough, her paws were pink.

The next day I got home from work and Stella had hot spots all over each of her paws.  Poor baby had to be so uncomfortable and I knew we had to get her in right away.  We always thought that Leroy’s allergies were bad, but he never had open sores like Stella had.

So now Stella is home from the vet with meds to help out and a bandage over one of the worse spots.  I’m glad we have a plan now, but I know that allergies in dogs are an ongoing issue.  Anyway…thought you’d enjoy some pics of Stella in her adorable little bandage:

Have you tried Dinovite? We used to have some of the same trouble with our babies, but in the last 3 years on Dinovite – absolutely no problems! Their coats are absolutely stunning and no shedding except spring and fall as normal. You can get it a http://www.dinovite.com.

We also use their supromega salmon oil.

Poor Stella. So far, thankfully, our Timmy has not had any problems, but a trainer we worked with when he was a puppy told us to keep children’s liquid Benadryl in the house in case he ever had a severe allergic reaction to something. I wonder if Parson Russell Terriers are prone to allergies, too. I hope Stella is feeling good today.

My dog has worn booties too! She constantly got them off no matter what we did to keep them on. That’sone smart dog! When we finally started doing the research, instead of listening to the advice that steroids and over the counter meds were the answer, I found dinovite. Mary…we use it too! And, no more booties that are really just chew toys!

I don’t think that any breed is especially prone to allergies but I think that may be what my vet says when there’s nothing else to say :) Anyway, things here are under control now.

Love the pictures…especially of Zoe checking out Stella’s bootie! Very cute!

Hello! Your Stella is darling. I don’t know if you live in a cold climate, but Italian Greyhounds are very tricky to fit into dog clothes/coats. http://www.houndtogs.com/ is a great resource.

Thanks for educating the world about puppy mills and dog rescues and what it means to really take proper care of a dog. I will definitely keep an eye on your blog!

Poor Stella :( I love her little bootie, though. :D Our Dottie tore one of her paw pads quite badly a few months ago, and my husband and I got very good at wrapping paws! We were very, very grateful to the person who invented the self-adhesive vet wrap! :D
