Who the heck is AG? Well, that’s me!  My name is Anne Good and I’m the dog-loving girl behind AG Out Loud!  AG is what my husband has called me since we first started dating back in 2001 and it just kinda stuck.

AG Out Loud was born on a Saturday in October 2008 when I was just starting my day at the spa/salon where I work as an esthetician. I was preparing my room when one of my coworkers knocked on my door and said she needed to talk to me. A few of our shared clients had told her that they were uncomfortable with all of my “dog talk” and she knew that I would want to know.

I have a picture of our two Chihuahuas, Zoey and Leroy on my counter at work. Many times clients ask about them, and specifically, where I got them. My standard answer is, “Zoey was my favorite mistake because I got here at a pet store before I knew how awful they are. I didn’t know what a puppymill was or that pet stores get their dogs from these puppymills and irresponsible breeders. I wouldn’t give her up, but I’ll never support that horrendous industry again. We got Leroy a year later from the Nebraska Humane Society.”

Since getting Zoey, it’s been my mission to take my own experience and educate others. I consider myself an intelligent woman, yet I didn’t know anything about the “business of dogs” until I got my first dog and was educated by other people about the industry I unknowingly supported. I know there are many other people out there who would do better if they knew better. Unfortunately, sometimes my story rubs people the wrong way.

My conversation with my coworker made me realize that I needed to re-evaluate my methods of educating people. I didn’t want to offend my clients because of something I feel passionate about, but I needed an outlet to talk to other dog lovers and to educate people about how to get and own a dog responsively.

This brings me to AG Out Loud…the forum where I can speak freely about everything “dog”. This blog will address everything from rescues and dog issues, to dog apparel, art, food, toys, etc. Of course there will also be plenty of Zoey and Leroy stories too!

Update!!! ( Jan. 2009) We added a new dog to our family! We rescued Stella, an italian greyhound/jack russell terrier mix on Jan. 9th! She came from S.T.A.F.F. (Society for the Treatment of Abandoned and Fractured Friends) in Laurie, MO. She is such a blessing and instantly became a member of our pack!

I also have some help with A.G. Out Loud from two of the main men in my life.  Here’s a little more about them:

.

Don Davidson: Extraordinary Husband of A.G.

.
Don is an unlikely member of the dog blog world, given that when we first started dating back in 2001, he said he liked dogs but didn’t necessarily want to be a dog owner.  Three dogs later and you can find him walking the dogs, brushing their teeth, singing songs to them and doing some massive cuddling.
.
Don works on the marketing of A.G. Out Loud and helps me with our videos…sometimes even making a solo video appearance!  He was definitely the one to push me to create A.G. Out Loud because he saw that I had such a passion for dogs and dog rescue and thought I should channel that energy to help educate and entertain.

Steve Good and Lex: Comedic Brother of A.G. and Furry Nephew of A.G.

Steve has always been the witty one in the Good Family.  When I told him about starting A.G. Out Loud, he quickly volunteered his rescue dog, Lex to write a monthly post called “Life According to Lex”.   Together, they will have you laughing as they ponder life in the dog world.

    Anne,
Your Mom sent me your site, we are friends from Fort Dodge and absolutely love our dogs, we are a regular dog house, will update you later on the loves of our lives, but so excited to see your site, keep up the good work, the world needs more of people like you!!! we have three little ones in the house and now Joey’s new boxer visits often, we also have a 14 year old outside dog who is such a blessing, we named he Lucky when we picked her up from the shelter 13 years ago, we worry about her and that this may be her last year with us. the little ones are having a tough time adjusting to Tron’s visits and his 6 month attitude, any suggestions on how to get 8 pound dogs who have ruled the roost for so long to get along with the new 50 pound dog, who by the way thinks he weighs about 3 pounds, (by the way Joey’s boxer is afraid of the little ones)

Mini Dog House in Fort Dodge and love everyone of them

  2. Great story, and I hear ya. I often have to bite my tongue at my day job when people talk about pet stores or feeding their pets terrible food, etc.

Remind me to link you from my blog!

    Anne,

Do you happen to know anything about training dogs? I’m thinking about adding one to the family but am doing my research on the training part.

Look forward to reading your blog :)
